Over the years I learned to work hard, learn from others, continue my skills and techniques and don't burn bridges! (I had the man who started me out in my career, come and work with me, many years later...because I had not burned bridges). I have worked for 2 internationally acclaimed beauty companies, both as educator. I fulfilled dreams in my career that I did not even think possible!! My instructor in school told me I was so shy that unless I started to talk I was going to have a tough time, because my TALENT alone would not get me where I could go in the industry!! I was so painfully shy....BUT I had HUGE talent! I had to work through many personal growth issues as well as, learning business, and marketing to run business. My greatest strengths in the industry has been being able to COACH others in their talents, as well as, coaching them and teaching and encouraging them to become "STRONG" and grow themselves and enjoy who they are...and build them into fantastic people who are successful! In all my years I have never stepped over or on top of anyone to get what or where I wanted to go....but I have had it happen to me and seen it happen to many others!! I do not believe in that kind of work ethic...I do believe that will come back to BITE one day.....Just as Kindness will one day pay off....!!
In my salons I have been able to teach apprentices and give them opportunities that many others would NOT take the time to teach some of the techniques to these new "stylists " that they may have otherwise dropped through cracks and not stayed in the industry!! It is a tough career!! Encouraging words when they were ready to quit....encouraging words when they felt like they would NEVER make it through the exam...encouraging words, when that client said awful words...not thinking that evryone starts somewhere!!.....Building confidences when there was soooo very little...watching a timid little mouse turn into a beautiful confident Woman or Man...someone who takes charge of her/his work and understands her/his client, her/his clients needs and now her/his client feels totally at ease in her/his hands!! Watching a young person be able to HEAR and then sculpt what needs to be done, feel what the client feels, give what the needs and then in turn MAKE that CLIENT SMILE and REWARD both the STYLSIT and the CLIENT....which in turn is a HUGE reward for ME....JUST watching HAPPY PEOPLE!!
After many years of owning I am now managing for another company. I am enjoying less hours and a little more time freedom.
